Challenge:
The initial version of the website exhibited significant usability issues and lacked a smooth user experience. The interface felt clunky and cumbersome, hampering visitors' ability to navigate seamlessly through its pages. Moreover, the font selection and overall page layout failed to establish a cohesive visual identity, resulting in a disjointed and inconsistent appearance.
- Carefully selecting fonts that harmonize with the website's theme and purpose. By establishing a consistent and visually appealing typographic hierarchy, I could create a cohesive visual language that guided users through the pages effortlessly
- A comprehensive redesign of the page layout, ensuring a harmonious arrangement of elements that enhanced both aesthetic appeal and usability
- Employ advanced optimization techniques such as minimizng code, removing bugs, etc.
When designing for a target audience of young kids who aspire to make a positive impact in the world, it's crucial to consider their unique preferences and cognitive development. One effective strategy is to utilize bright and vibrant colors, as they tend to attract and engage children's attention. Moreover, these lively colors can also appeal to older individuals, such as parents or educators, who may be involved in guiding and supporting the young kids. Incorporating scrollable stories can be an excellent way to enhance user experience and foster interaction with the content. Scrollable stories allow for a dynamic and immersive narrative experience, enabling young users to explore and discover the message at their own pace
Studies have shown that bright colors, such as vibrant blues, yellows, and reds, can stimulate children's visual perception and promote a sense of excitement and curiosity. Additionally, research indicates that using contrasting colors can aid in information retention and comprehension, making it easier for young kids to grasp and remember key concepts
When it comes to scrollable stories, research has demonstrated that interactive storytelling can enhance cognitive skills, creativity, and critical thinking in children. Scrollable stories can also significantly increase user engagement metrics, such as session duration and interaction rates
The initial phase of my design process involved creating a series of foundational sketches that laid the groundwork for a visually compelling and informative user interface. These sketches featured card to help present information in a clear and concise manner, while employing a storytelling format.
The front page of a website serves as a digital storefront, the initial point of contact between the user and the content. To establish trust, it is imperative to present key information in a concise and visually engaging manner. This can be accomplished by employing well-designed cards that highlight essential elements, such as mission statements, values, and notable achievements. These cards, adorned with attractive imagery and succinct yet impactful descriptions, serve as virtual stepping stones, guiding the user deeper into the website. Once trust is established on the front page, the subsequent pages can adopt a more immersive and storytelling approach. In the storytelling format, each page can represent a chapter in the overarching narrative, unveiling different aspects of the cause or theme.
- Lack of content creates a lot of negative space
- Making button functions more clear
The purpose of the website was to assist young people in engaging in activism and bringing about change in their communities. With this goal in mind, a minimal and informative website would greatly benefit children. To view the final result, you can click on the text "Youth Activism Project" on the card.
With this project, I learned how children react to websites and how to create an amazing reading experience for users. Since the website was launched, it has received numerous expressions of gratitude for being such a valuable resource.
When it comes to improving the experince, there could be more work on:
- Dynamic animations to make the website more interactive
- Create a flow for students to use the resources present on the website
- Make a section where like-minded kids and organizations can connect
